Case Study: Auction House

Profile

One of Australia's telecommunications carriers rang ADTEC with a problem. They were looking for a solution for one of their customers - a well known  auction house. What they wanted was the ability to hold a combination live auction and web-based auction so that people could bid on-line as well as at the actual auction site.

Technical Issues/Challenges

A system was required which could allow the auctioneer to be in permanent contact with the back office manager, but at the same time be broadcasting live from the actual auction. It was in effect a two and a half way conference call, with the link to the office being both way (full duplex), but the broadcast being one way only. Ideally, they wanted to be able to do several combined auctions at once, as they had multiple branches around the country.

Solution

ADTEC once again came up trumps. By configuring the TeleBridge for multiple combined digital/analogue conferences, it did the job nicely. The TeleBridge was connected to the main office PABX via a 30 port digital trunk card, and the auctioneer broadcast to the web-site captured as the transmit side of a 4 wire + E&M analogue circuit. The connection to the back office was via the digital link.

Because TeleBridge has the capability to seamlessly mix digital and analogue speech paths, the system handles this new type of conferencing very well - apparently, not a feature on most other conference bridges.

Benefits

The customer now has a custom built solution, providing exactly what they wanted. In addition, they also have a standard conferencing system as part of their communications platform, so they can also save money on regular teleconference calls.
